But this is not how people use the term, and unfortunately Apple themselves have perpetuated it with their stupid "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" commercials. So this is why I have to ask because most people mean Windows when they say PC support. And given that I've seen mention of DirectX 11 support, I figured this was the case.
I use Mac professionally as a software engineer. I use Mac because OS X is a UNIX operating system, and it's more compatible with the Linux servers I work with than Windows is. Setting up a development environment in Mac is also less work than it is on Windows, especially with tools like Homebrew.
Another factor is the MacBook is light weight, uses high quality aluminum, and has a much higher resell value. More often then not I can get more than 50-75% back by reselling it on Craigslist, depending on how long I keep it (1-3 years). I'm lucky to get 10% from a non-Mac computer, even if I sold it within a year.
Mac is quite capable of running computer games, especially with the discreet graphics cards. It's true I cannot upgrade as much, especially with the retina display, but I can upgrade every few months if I wanted to, which is far more than you can say for PlayStation or XBOX.
If you guys are serious about having Legion on multiple platforms you're looking in the wrong place. You should be focusing on OpenGL instead of DirectX. Even Valve is focusing on OpenGL. They are even contributing heavily into improving Linux drivers. Focusing on Windows is the worst possible plan. It will be much harder to transition to OpenGL later as an afterthought. You need to be doing it now. If you don't your going to lock yourself into Windows and maybe XBOX.
Well said, Cyrus. +1
I'm a pretty dedicated Mac user and the vast majority of my gaming is done via PS3 and iPad outside of EVE on my desktop. I am actually pretty much the type of player the pure PC to Legion move hurts the most. Having the ability to access Legion via Mac products would be pretty nice for me personally. That said, I honestly don't know enough about the tech aspects to hazard a guess how difficult it is to develop shared gameplay across PC, MAC, and hopefully a console.
